The band was organized and was called the Portland band |
| 1843 |
Daniel Chandler became the band leader and the band name was changed to Chandler's Band. Daniel Chandler developed the band into one of the finest performing groups of its kind. |
| 1861 |
At the request of General Francais Fessenden, Daniel Chandler and his band were mustered into the service of the Union Army, and they served until the close of the Civil War, spending much time at Harper’s Ferry, and furnishing music for the 1st, 10th, 25th, and 29th Maine regiments. |
| 1870 |
Chandler's Band provided the music for the Grand Anniversary Dress Ball, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the admission of Maine into the Union.

In consideration for playing Bowdoin's commencement Charles M. Brooks, band conductor, received this baton from Bowdoin College. This baton was made of "Thorndike Oak" from trees at Bowdoin.
